A combination of great weather and good fishing was the theme for the 2017 Fortuna Fire Co. 2 Paul Jadro Memorial Bass Tournament held on Ruth Lake Saturday June 3rd. The 5:30am blast-off witnessed 27 boats head out for a day of pretty good fishing with 24 of those coming to the scales later that afternoon, most with 5 fish limits.

The payout for the tournament contestants extended to 10th place with a total of $2,770.00 awarded along with numerous raffle items donated by tournament sponsors. The 2017 tournament winners are not newcomers to the podium, once again the Team of Brian Barthman and Tom Helberg managed a 1st place finish with a total of 19.14 lbs, receiving a check for $1,000.00 along with 1st place plaques and hats. A very close second place at 19.10 lbs went to the team of Chris Eddy and Dave Yingling, the pair received a check for $400.00 along with 2nd place plaques and hats for their efforts. Our 3rd place winners, Sam Humphrey and Thomas Bruce were awarded $250.00, plaques, and hats, for their total weight of 18.46 lbs.

The proud recipients of the smallest limit award, weighing in a bag of 5 fish at 7.83 lbs were the team of Lee Robinson and Frankel Florvilus, collecting a check for 50.00 sponsored by A-1 Radiator of Fortuna. The big fish of the event came in at 6.41 lbs and was caught by 5th place winners Jeff Noga and Brett Banducci.

On the Youth Angler side of the event we had 4 contestants with Jacob Fleming taking the number one spot and receiving a $50.00 check from Umpqua Bank along with a rod-reel combo from Pacific Outfitters and the 1st place plaque sponsored by S & H Auto Machine in Fortuna. 2nd place in the division went to Payton Marchi. Payton was awarded a check for $25.00, a rod-reel combo sponsored by Grundman’s Sporting Goods in Rio Dell, and an assortment of tackle. 3rd place finisher William Justesen also received a check for $25.00 and an assortment of fishing tackle. Coming in 4th place and awarded an assortment of fishing tackle was Salmon Sigman.
